Re-envisioning
Kirkham Heights

Thank you for your interest in The Kirkham Project,
one of San Francisco’s first major urban infill developments in the western section of the City.

We believe our proposed plan demonstrates creative design that addresses the City’s need for more market rate and affordable housing.

Your feedback is important to us as we strive to create a unique and vibrant new residential community. Please sign up to join our mailing list or provide comments to the project team.

Neighborhood

The Inner Sunset is one of the City’s most vibrant residential and commercial districts. This eclectic community of local shops and restaurants is flourishing; we want to hear from you about what fosters its unique culture. A significant goal of the Kirkham Project is to contribute to this energy and share in the collective vision of the neighborhood’s future.

Connectivity

Connectivity

Westlake Urban envisions a community connected to the neighborhood, local retail corridors, and the surrounding environment. Open spaces, landscaped and well-lit pedestrian paths, street furniture, accessible plazas, and improved pedestrian connections to UCSF will link residents to the neighborhood and to each other. Multi-modal transit options will also connect residents to the broader San Francisco community. In addition, the plan includes urban stairways that reflect the unique, historic character of San Francisco hillside districts.

Inclusivity

Inclusivity

The Kirkham Project will provide a mix of housing options to address the diverse housing needs of current and new residents who want to make a home in the Inner Sunset. As proposed, the redeveloped project will include the on-site replacement of the existing 86 rent controlled units, and will comply with the San Francisco Rent Control Ordinance, resulting in 12% of the net new units rented below market rate. The project will help the City meet its housing goals by making available a range of options for an inclusive community. The new plan also greatly improves accessibility, including wheelchair accessible sidewalks and terraces and provisions for universal design features within residential units.

Environment

Westlake Urban is committed to responsible stewardship of the natural environment. The existing two acres of forest located on Westlake Urban’s property will be preserved in its current state. On site, landscaped community spaces and stairways will create new access to expansive views of the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands. Sustainability is a key focus of the project’s plan and design, and Westlake Urban will seek to reduce traffic and facilitate alternative transportation modes through car share programs, bike/scooter storage, various levels of concierge services and support for public transit.

Living Experience

The Inner Sunset offers great views and opportunities for access to open spaces and a thriving commercial area. Our goal is to create a living environment that connects the community and integrates residents with the environment. The Kirkham Project’s anticipated public spaces, landscaped gardens and stairways will provide new view vistas and access to nature for project and City residents.
